Genre General Manager for Comedy & Entertainment
Steve North is the General Manager Genre General Manager for UKTV’s Comedy & Entertainment channels. He is responsible for the commercial and editorial performances of each channel, and for implementing their long-term growth strategies.
In 2007 Steve led the highly successful rebrand of UKTV G2 to Dave, and transformed an underperforming entertainment channel into one of the top non-PSB channels in Britain. Under Steve’s astute leadership, the channel has invested in a raft of brand-defining UKTV Originals including: BAFTA and International Emmy-nominated Taskmaster; scripted comedies Zapped and Porters; popular comedy entertainment formats Judge Romesh and Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier; and the return of multiple award-winning Red Dwarf.
Steve has also overseen the multi-million pound investment in new content for Gold, including brand new scripted comedies such as Murder on the Blackpool Express and upcoming Death on the Tyne, as well as factual entertainment formats such as My Favourite Sketch and Dinner Ladies.
In 2016 Steve led the evolution of pay entertainment channel Watch to W, with a new brand position and target audience. Since then, the channel has become home to a raft of popular UKTV Originals including Inside The Ambulance and Emma Willis: Delivering Babies, and W has recently moved into commissioning scripted drama with three-part series Women on The Verge and upcoming series six-part series Flack.
Steve started his career at UKTV in 2001 as a Scheduler. Prior to that he was a Media Planner for the BBC and worked in Presentation at Viacom
